The Major Assessment of DECO1017 Principles of Animation was to create a 30 to 60 second video animation that demonstrates how a product is used and how it works functionally.
As an avid fan of DJI, I decided to create an animation on their latest and greatest drone at the time, the Mavic Pro. Instead of going down the path of making a story about a particular scenario using the drone, I went for a more dynamic, more minimalist and more cinematic approach, as I wanted the animation only to focus on just the product - the drone - nothing else, as other products would distract the audience from the actual product. Therefore, through the use of kinetic typography, bold pulsating music and flat 2D drawings over solid black/white backgrounds, I shouted out a number of key features and uses of the product in the video.
I was inspired by a number of ads, such as that of Apple's 'What is iPad (2010)', 'iPad Air - Pencil (2013)' and especially 'Don't Blink (2016)', which encouraged me to use kinetic typography in sync with a pulsating track, as I believed it made the video very powerful.
